5. Frightened Rabbit - Sing the Greys
good all-purpose music. i don't know anyone who doesn't like their sound. it's catchy without being too generic or overpowering.

4. Deerhunter - Cryptograms
this record is ethereal as fuck. excellent for someone like me who listened to postpunk for like 6 years before realizing the echo is not a frequently ocurring sound in nature.

3. Deerhoof - Friend Opportunity
art rock or what? i know you hate it andy, but really. it's perfectly complementary. it's like a complex flavour. probably an acquired taste, but still great.

2. Burial - Untrue
fucking listen to it.

1. Jay-Z - American Gangster
this is going to be a sleeper record, probably garnishing enormous popularity again after the film goes out on DVD. the whole record is surprising... that's something that doesn't happen in hip-hop too often.
